CROSS CULTURES SPIRITUAL SIMILARITIES, VENERATION AND WORSHIP – WE ARE ALL THE SAME

Cultures throughout the world, spiritually, are so interesting. We, at least most of us, love to learn of how people celebrate and worship within each culture, their Gods and Goddesses. In Jamaica we have Zion Revival which came out of Africa but has been infused with Christianity (as religion was forced upon Africans), nevertheless the drums and what the Zionist possesses within their mental consciousness comes out during worship through dance, songs and prayers. In Zion Revival, unbeknownst to most who are of the Order, they invoke either consciously or unconsciously their ancestors from a land far away – their ancestral homeland: Africa.

AN IFA SACRIFICE – LET ME TAKE YOU THROUGH THE RITES (with video sacrifice and audio explanation)

102_2386

The concept of Ifa/Orisha tradition of the Yoruba people of South Western Nigeria, is a complex one. Understanding it especially if all along life’s way, you had never heard of its practice, or have no idea of what it is, understanding it on the level it truly takes to appreciate its wisdom and cosmology will take time for some, often times due to religious indoctrination (all you have ever known is the bible and Christ, or the Koran and Mohammed), the language it takes to explain Ifa, meaning the Yoruba words of the deities and the meaning behind the coded language which is the binary code of life, and also the overall wisdom of Ifa, often recited in parables.

BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION TODAY- SIDUNG RIGHT YAH SUH!

book-club-1

Good day to all, we will be having our book club discussion this evening beginning at 8 pm. The subject for tonight is posted below,  all who will be apart of tonight’s discussion will be expected to read.  Professor TY, will be the moderator for the evening and for the evenings discussion. She will, when she comes post her own instructions which we will all adhere to. I urge you all that if you have to post any comments not related to this particular post or book club discussion, please make the comments in the post below this one, as I want this board to be for just the discussions only. Last week we had a wonderful time and we learned a lot, we thank Yw who did a fine job, and I also thank you all for being supportive and showing up. We must learn, this is why we are here on this realm and it is to acquire knowledge and also to pass on knowledge. Knowledge is knowledge, so being selective in what you learn is not wise. you will never know when you need to use what you once rejected to know or learn. Let us use this space for all the good that we can, and learn from each other, let us exercise our brains, and whatever we learn from each other, I urge you all to share, pass it on. Post no videos please, so that the weight of them will not interfere with the post tonight

Embracing Spirituality

Orishas are deities that reflect the manifestations of Olodumare (God). They are emissaries of God, forces of nature. Each individual manifest an attribute of these forces within their consciousness, therefore displaying knowingly or unknowingly through their character, or even how they look which Orisha is their Guardian. In other words we are all children of Orishas. Ethnicity plays no importance here at all!. We in the west are used to hearing about Angels and we have no problem with that, in fact it fills us with joy, warmth and happiness to call upon Gods angels to come and assist us in whatever. It is the same with Orisha only more personal, and that the language used is different in connection with the deity upon our Ori which is our head, our inner consciousness. It is through our head (ori) that we manifest the Orishas, and we can communicate with them through divination, offerings and prayers. Orishas were sent to earth by Olodumare (God) to assist man…

ESU (ESHU)YORUBA DIVINITY OF JUSTICE!!!

100_27261

Among the  various divinities of the Yoruba pantheon Esu is closest to Orunmila, owner of the sacred Ifa oracle. Whenever sacrifices or rituals are done it is given to Esu. Esu must be appeased before all orishas or else the supplication will not be accepted. He can be described as an law enforcement agent or the police, the world police since Esu is everywhere. He is also the closest to God, and is known as God’s great messenger. It was God’s decree which gave  Esu his position and declared that he  be fed first and never ignored. Esu must always be given his due. Esu’s role as a divinity is so important to the world that we can find him through out every culture, of course with many different names because of language. Brother anancy (as he is called in Jamaica, oonuh memba nancy story? ah Esu) or ananse of the Ashanti people of Ghana, Legba the trickster God of the Fon people,Ogo Yurugu of the Dogon people and even Ganesha from the Hindus, to name a few. In all of his role in society Esu plays the role of a trickster, and because of this it is not easy for people “get” why he is not evil, even if he appears so, but his troublesome ways are what is needed to create harmony in this world. It is Esu who reminds us to remember God and to serve him. In doing this, he creates chaos, he orchestrates change, he challenges our goodness and build up the bad character of the wicked for them to show their evil ways through their acts. More

Orishas were sent to earth by Olodumare (God) to assist man and to align things so that we can put them in the right perspective (order), this is the way I have percieved it from my point of view. They were here from the time of creation, and may be called by many names depending on time and place, they are intermediaries of God, much like Jesus is to the christians and Mohammed is to muslims. BREDDA ANANCY!!

Esu…the trickster owner of the cross roads, thresholds and market places,  ”one is never finished telling the power of Esu”, Sacrifices are always offered to him before divinations.  He has the prime responsibility for the passage of a new life from the invisible world to the world of men.  Esu is the mediator between God and men. In Yoruba Land his shrines can be found at the entrances of compounds at, the market places and at the cross roads.  He stands at the transcendent center of life.  He is Owner of the Earth, a position given to him by God.  It is Esus actions that stirs up all human trouble. He tricks men into offending God and all other dietys, but this only provides the dietys with sacrifices… without Esu they would starve. He is superior to all others in cunning and without him there would be no World, he is the World Police and creates trouble so that man can know and understand himself therefore respecting God. He is closest to God and he is both feared and respected…..Esu/Legba/Elegba/Elegbara…..Bredda Anancy in Jamaica, who came along with us through the middle passage from Ghana with the captured Ashantis. Every Jamaican grew up hearing Anancy Stories…..enjoy this one.
